Restaurant Bites

Spoke and Stringer, Bristol

I often go up to stay with my Bristol-based auntie, and I think on every visit we’ve come here (embarrassed, she promises me we’ll go somewhere else next time). Be it for a cheeky cocktail, a Sunday brunch or an almond latte after a run. It’s a rustic little place right by the river, with an atmosphere that’s as chilled as the surfboards they sell. If you’re lucky enough to have some sun it’s best to sit outside and watch Bristolians meander by. But if the weather isn’t favourable their window bar has the same effect.

And the best part: the food is better than the setting! They have a scrumptious tapas menu – the first time I tried patatas bravas (and certainly not the last) – honey glazed chorizo, fluffy focaccia. Or if you’re just looking for a drink: wicked mojitos accompanied by smoked almonds. However, my favourite has to be their brunch. Nothing tastes better than smashed avocado, beetroot cured salmon, tomatoes, pesto, pouched eggs and lemon on sourdough after a Sunday morning 10k. Although, the downside of the place is that all the food coming out of the little kitchen looks so good you’ll get order-envy. Looks like I’ll just have to go back to try more…
